My wife and I have always enjoyed getting outside. While living in Charlotte, we found ourselves leaving town each weekend with our dog, Luna, in order to find new outdoor places. Finally, we decided to look for a property that we could all enjoy for years to come, even as we planned a career move back towards Winston-Salem.
Having grown up in the Triad area, we were familiar with Hanging Rock, Sauratown and Pilot Mountain, but, when we began to look at properties, we were amazed to find the picturesque views that were available surrounding these peaks. We spent a wonderful six months visiting various places, but we settled on the first property we ever visited, which is now called Luna’s Trail.
Luna’s Trail is named for our dog. Normally a timid pound pup, Luna’s confidence and imagination seem to flourish on these trails. Four children later, we still enjoy getting out as a family and watching Luna blossom. We often cannot tell if she actually sees things she appears to be chasing, or if she is making them up.
We have also enjoyed learning about the local food movement here in the Pilot Mountain/Mt. Airy area. Being on a farm, we are learning a lot about food development, and are interested in organic and sustainable techniques. We initially tried our hand at pasture-raised chicken eggs, and we have since expanded into grass fed beef, pastured pork, poultry, and blueberries.
For 2019, we are taking an exciting step by expanding with more event space with a space called the Big Creek Lodge. This building will include a spacious event rental center, as well as a functioning kitchen in order to be able to begin to provide food for some of our events and on-site guests. The lodge will also have additional bedrooms upstairs. Please stay tuned!
Just as we have enjoyed living on this property, we hope that others could find similar enjoyment in visiting the property. That’s why we’ve built our cabins and event center, which we hope people will come and enjoy. Vacations, reunions, meetings or weddings – we feel many activities would fit right in with the relaxing and beautiful environment at Luna’s Trail.
