Meet the Luna’s Trail Hogs!
These Tamworths don’t have the typical lifestyle of captivity. These pigs enjoy the good life, with ample space to forage for grasses and nuts, as well as daily servings of organic feed, in addition to nightly scraps from the Wilson kitchen. Some diatomaceous earth is added to the feed to protect against parasites, and fresh water is provided daily. In fact, the only things they eat that are not organic are some items from the human food!
Here is a picture of their current pen:
A far cry from the cramped pig pens you see in the movies, this pen is about a quarter acre. They were previously kept in a 1 acre pen, but we like to move them periodically to give them fresh new ground to explore. Can you see how small they look in the corner there? The big, dense pine forest keeps them protected from the elements, and they live a lifestyle more in tune with the wild pigs of the past. This means more space and more exercise, and a leaner, happier, healthier pig in the long run.
Please come visit soon to see where they end up next. It is a pleasure to watch something that enjoys eating as much as these pigs do!
