Winter is coming, but there’s no rest for the weary. It’s time to continue on with planned projects to improve the wedding venue for next year.
First up, a scenic bridge over the drainage from the lake. This is more than an old tractor trailer bed – this is the future covered bridge, just below the wedding venue. Our builder noticed this trailer sitting in someone’s yard about 5 miles down the road. What’s the use in such a piece – I’ve probably passed it 1,000 times prior to thinking of using it? This bridge already has the key engineering included, so that we can easily drive the tractor and a hayride trailer over the bridge safely, without having to re-engineer the bridge ourselves. It might not look like much now, but the structural integrity is there, and, once we build in some hand rails and a tin roof, we hope it will be quite a sight! Also, it connects two areas of “bottom land” which border a the creek on the property, and the bridge will make both of these very accessible for those interested in a creekside stroll.
Next, the future Hanging Rock Cabin.
This view of Hanging Rock has been a popular stop during tours. and also popular among some of the early weddings. This is also one of my favorite spots on the property. We want to try to provide a structure from which we can all appreciate this view. The cabin will be oriented completely depending on the view, but, fortunately, this provides for a south facing roof slope as well, which will enable our typical solar hot water system. Hopefully, having air conditioning and rest rooms nearby will improve this area as a site for future ceremonies. Stay tuned, and we’ll show the progress as we go along…
